At Family Orthodontics, we thoroughly enjoy straightening your teeth! We want to make sure that after your teeth are straight and the braces come off, that you can enjoy a beautiful, healthy smile! To do that, we need you to give us an A+ performance on home care! To aid you in this partnership, we will equip you with all the necessary tools needed for success the day that you get your braces or invisalign delivered! Below is some helpful information to get you in the right direction:

Brushing

It is extremely important that you keep your teeth very clean during orthodontic treatment! To do that, we recommend brushing after each meal, and just before going to bed to make sure that your teeth are sparkly clean! When brushing, it is important that you approach the braces at a 45° angle, both from the gum side, and the tooth edge side of the braces. By brushing at these angles, you will prevent plaque build-up under the braces.

Proxy Brush

In addition to regular toothbrushing, proxybrushing between the brackets is useful for removing food and plaque under the wire. This is a useful tool for dislodging food from the braces and is convenient to carry anywhere for easy cleaning!

Flossing

Everyone’s favorite activity! Wait, it isn’t for you? If it’s not, don’t worry, it’s never too late to get started! Flossing with braces on is slightly more difficult and time consuming, but with practice, you’ll be a pro in no time! We recommend flossing as often as you can, but ask for at least one good flossing each day.

Foods to Avoid

Unfortunately, there are many types of food and candy that must be avoided while wearing braces. Eating hard or sticky food and candy can break brackets off the teeth, delaying completion of the orthodontic care. Upon starting treatment, we will give you a list of foods to avoid for your reference.
